7:10 pm - Featured Speakers' Presentations

We have two speakers scheduled for this meeting:

Tom Shultz will discuss the Hives for Heroes program.  Hives for Heroes is a national, military veteran, non-profit organization focused on honey bee conservation and a healthy transition from active service for military veterans.  Through a national network of beekeepers and veterans, Hives for Heroes provides connection, purpose, and healthy relationship that foster a lifelong interest in beekeeping.  Tom is a retired Army veteran who has been keeping bees for seven years.  He has 200 hives and is the First VP for the Empire State Honey Producers Association.  He has been involved with Hives for Heroes for about a year.

Mia Detor will discuss the process of cleaning and preparing wax collected from the hive.  She will also discuss her approach to candlemaking.  Mia is our SABA secretary and has been keeping bees since 2017.  As an avid gardener, she chose to pursue beekeeping as a way of benefiting her flowers, vegetables, and the environment.
